Toyota Motor Sales recently announced the recall of two of its new Lexus models due to potential issues involving the airbags installed in the vehicles. The vehicles involved are the Lexus RX 350 and RX 450h, are from the 2016 model year.
The announcement on Wednesday marks the latest of problems plaguing automotive suppliers of airbags. So far, 10 different automakers have been affected by the potentially faulty bags that have been linked to a number of injuries and 11 fatalities when airbags manufactured by Takata Corp. deploy.
Toyota’s recall covers bags made by Japanese Company Gosei that were installed in the vehicles on the driver’s side at knee level. Toyota said that the bags could “increase the risk of injury in a crash.”
Toyota’s recall affects approximately 5,000 vehicles and Lexus dealers will inspect and replace the airbags if necessary at no charge to customers.
