Another tragic accident has happened in south Fulton county, this time involving a police officer in a crash. The DeKalb officer died in a fiery crash at South Fulton Parkway and Buffington Road. His name was Kevin Toately, a seven-year veteran of the police force.
The crash happened when a vehicle smashed into the front of his cruiser. The other vehicle was traveling the wrong way down the road. The patrol car burst into flames. Rescue personnel were able to perform CPR on the officer and get him to a hospital, but he died from his injuries. Three children and another passenger in the other vehicle were also injured in the accident.
The accident happened just after midnight. It’s possible that the driver just didn’t see the correct sign. They could have been tired, distracted, or intoxicated. But none of that absolves them from their responsibility to make recompense for what they’ve done. Part of that may come in the form of a lawsuit for damages.
