Pharmaceutical companies are often competing with one another to come up with the latest, greatest treatments for various illness. Years of research and development go into the creation of each new drug. Unfortunately, sometimes lawsuits are also a result when drugs have unintended, negative side-effects not known at the time of release.
A new blood-thinning drug called Xarelto manufactured by German company Bayer has come under scrutiny. Federal lawsuits alleging injuries suffered during use of the drug have been filed recently. Many people have been injured or even killed due to uncontrollable bleeding due to the drug.
A federal judge in Louisiana has set trial dates for the first bellwether proceedings against a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary and Bayer AG over the drug.
The first trial over injuries allegedly occurring as a result of the drug is set to begin on February 6th, 2017. Another trial is set to begin, also in Lousiana, on March 13, 2017. Two more trials, one in Mississippi and one in Texas are also scheduled to begin. The trial in Mississippi is set to start on April 24, 2017. The Texas trial is set to begin on May 30, 2017.
