The Macon Telegraph reports that a 31-year-old man is in custody facing serious charges after a tragedy this weekend sent a toddler to the hospital in critical condition.
Atlanta Police Department officers found a gravely wounded two-year-old boy in an Atlanta home Saturday. The boy had found a loaded gun and shot himself by accident. He was rushed to the hospital.
Police arrested a man for second-degree cruelty to children, reckless conduct, possession of a stolen gun, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department on Sunday. However, the spokesperson did confirm that the shooting appeared to be accidental. The spokesperson could not confirm if the suspect was related to the wounded child or how he was connected to the incident.
The child remains hospitalized in critical condition and the investigation is continuing. Atlanta Police Department noted this is the second serious incident involving children shooting themselves in recent weeks, after a three-year-old Atlanta child fatally shot himself on July 28.
